In Sickness

This body of work was produced during the height of my illness in 2023. It came together slowly, bit-by-bit, as I had 20 minutes of energy to use between days of laying bed bound. I explore the tight-knit relationship between grief and joy, which is a relationship that those in the chronically-ill community are intimately acquainted with. This relationship is mirrored in our experience of health and sickness, death and living, and ability and disability. While for many people these entities are often experienced as extreme opposing forces, those who continue to live with what would often cause death, have learnt that these “opposites” are often one in the same, and can be felt in full force simultaneously. It is not ‘this or that’ but rather ‘this AND that’.
